Maui Fever Lands in Canada

Maui Fever has finally hit north of the border! Only a few months after the final episode was aired in the United States, Canadians are now starting to get the Maui Fever buzz. Right now, they are only a few episodes in, but with MTV Canada's ability to air the same episode many times in a given week, people are given many chances to catch an episode.

Remember to check out the Maui Fever forum for gossip and rumours, as well as episode song lists. Hopefully Maui Fever will spread overseas in the near future.

Maui Fever Slide Show

So I made this little slide show with Maui Fever pictures. I'll be honest, it's pretty shitty, but for those looking for Maui Fever pictures, you may enjoy it.

Chaunte Nude?

A lot of you have been asking me if there are any nude picture of Chaunte from MTV's Maui Fever. The answer is no! As far as I know, Chaunte has not done any nude pictures, and I highly doubt that MTV is going to ask her. If there were nude pictures of Chaunte, I would not be posting them on this site because that wouldn't be right, but I will defintely let you all know about it!

Maui Fever Music Featured Artsit: Kovas

Brooklyn based recording artist Kovas lends his unique sound to MTV's new reality/drama show Maui Fever. Kovas is that rare breed of artist that writes, performs, records and produces his own songs, providing an unfiltered vision of his art. "About like 4 months ago when I was working on songs for my ep, a music supervisor at MTV caught wind of my material and flipped" says Kovas "I sent him some records and he said he wanted to use some of it for one of the new shows they were gonna have coming up. I was like cool and forgot about it, until he called couple months later and said it's in Maui Fever. I am a huge fan of all the shows on MTV and when I saw the first episode of Maui Fever I was hooked. So it's an honor to have my music used in the show " added Kovas. Well the honors don't stop there. Kovas just released his debut ep, "The Arrogance of Youth- EP", on his own label called Ghetto Beat. The album will be available exclusively on ITunes worldwide. There's talk of more Kovas songs making their way into future episodes of Maui Fever and starting in March, Kovas will be co-hosting a monthly podcast with DJ Karamel, called Ghetto Beat Radio which will showcase some the newest talent and hottest songs in urban and indie rock. Lady Sovereign's DJ, DJ Frampster is slated for the first show playing some new UK grime artist. You can check Kovas out on his MySpace for more details. And buy his new album on iTunes

Maui Locals Hate Maui Fever. But should they?

Since Maui Fever was aired in mid January, there have been many controversial topics concerning the show. Mainly, it was said that locals were pretty pissed that this show will give people the wrong image about their beautiful island. There has even been a petition to cancel the show, which got a significant amount of signatures. But why are people so upset over this? Some claim it’s because there are no locals shown during the episodes. Others say that it will give people the wrong impression about what people from Maui do all day. Some are also worried that people will want to move to Maui thinking that the island is just one big paradise.

From a Maui perspective, we can probably agree that there will be some people who see this show, and are too ignorant to realize that this is no more than an MTV “reality” show, and might get a misperception of the island life. The word reality in quotation marks because let’s be honest, MTV’s reality shows are not exactly as close to reality as one might believe. But for every one person that thinks Maui is all surfing and partying and hooking up with tourists, there are another ten people who are smart enough to know the truth. And even still, there are some people on the island whose life is probably very similar to surfing, drinking and hooking up. Maui Fever season one will be eight, half hour episodes. We all know that filming this show has taken a very long time. What we see on our TV’s is only a small fraction of what has actually occurred in the daily lives of these individuals. We see them surfing, we see them partying, we see them hooking up. We rarely see them working, although it is safe to say that majority of them do work to generate some income. Watching them work is probably not going to be good TV.

In terms of there being barely any locals shown during the episodes, we can agree that that can be a little misleading. The thing is the producers know what their audience is interested in seeing. We want partying, we want sex, and we want drama, hot guys and sexy girls. Cheyne, Chaunte, Anna, Anthony, Corbin, Jesse, and the others are the right people for this job. We don’t know if they considered others for the cast, local or “haoles,” but that shouldn’t matter. These people live on the island; this is what their lives consist of (plus more.) This is what should be on MTV because it makes for good TV and that is a fact. People enjoy it. Some people don’t, and they are entitled to their opinions and should be respected for it.

I found it a little strange that locals were worried that Maui Fever would cause people to move to the island. Granted, we all would love to pick up and move to a place as beautiful as Hawaii, it’s just not reality for a large majority of us. Even still, for those who actually do move, will they be disappointed? If they think that everyone on the island will be surfing and partying, then they got another thing coming, but if they’re moving from a cold climate, that could be enough to enjoy themselves. But I’d be shocked at the least to actually see Maui Fever be the deciding factor for someone to move.

So for those who are concerned, some of us do understand why you would be concerned, and you have a right to be. But just take comfort knowing that there still are people out there who don’t draw conclusions based on TV shows like Maui Fever and Laguna Beach. We know the difference between reality and what is shown on TV. Even if what is shown on TV claims to be “reality.”

Thought's on Episode 2 of Maui Fever 1/24/2007

As we begint to learn a bit more about the characters of Maui Fever, more questions pop into our minds. For instance, is Corbin serious when he says that when he's forty years old, he hopes that he's doing then what he is doing now? Why in the world did Cheyne stop dating Anna? Have you seen her? But most importantly, what is going on with Chaunte and Anthony? Are they together or not? Chaunte knows how Anthony feels, and she appears to not feel the exact same, yet she still doesn't have a problem making out with him and calling him to save her from other boys. Next weeks episode of Maui Fever should give us more answers.

What We've Learned About Maui Fever

From the first episode of Maui Fever, we have learned a few things about the show itself, and of the characters. The show appears to be similar to Laguna Beach, just as people had thought. It may be more sugar coated to appear more dramatic however.

Chaunte appears to come off as a selfish girl. She doesn't want to be with Anthony, but also doesn't want anyone else to have him either. And even though he tells her that she confuses him, she still continues to drag him along and give him hope that the two of them will be together.

When Cheyne's new girlfriend, Rachael, kisses him, Anna appears somewhat saddened or jealous.

Corbin is a big party animal who can't take life seriously. His laid back attitude seems fun for now, but will probably turn around and haunt him later.

Cheyne Magnusson

A lot of people have been asking where they recongnize Cheyne Magnusson from. Cheyne played the role of Jim 'Red Dog' Muir in the film Lords of Dogtown.

"There's a real sun-baked quality to it."

"It's about this group of friends, living and working in this paradise and how their lives and friendships get affected by different groups of tourists who pass through every week."
